It’s set to be a scorcher this weekend, so get the outdoor toys ready and let’s all enjoy the start of the summer weather. It’s easy to forget how powerful the sun can be here in the UK so we’ve pulled together some top tips on how to keep your children safe in the sun.
Encourage your children to play in the shade, especially during the hottest part of the day (11am-3pm).
Make sure they’re wearing sun cream, even when it’s overcast. UV rays are so strong they can penetrate through clouds. Sun cream should be applied 30 mins before they go out in the sun and be reapplied every 2-3 hours. Take extra care of their shoulders and neck. These are the most common areas for sunburn.
Make sure they wear a hat that covers their face and neck.
Sunglasses will not only make them look super-cool, it will also protect your child’s eyes. Make sure they have CE Marked labels to guarantee UV protection.
Drink lots of water. It’s vital to keep their hydration levels topped up especially when they’re playing in hot weather.
Set a good example and follow the tips yourself, it’s the easiest way for them to learn how important it is to protect yourself in the sun.
